What is ShortFlicks?

Shortflicks is a digital streaming platform designed to provide users with unlimited access to video content without the interruption of advertisements. Unlike traditional streaming services, the platform focuses on content and audiences that are often overlooked by larger providers. The system allows publishers to upload and manage video content, organise it into categories, and distribute it across multiple devices. The platform is being developed for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Apple TV, and web browsers, ensuring a consistent viewing experience regardless of how users choose to access the content.

Logo Design and Brand Development

The Shortflicks brand was created entirely from scratch, beginning with the exploration of different visual directions and brand personalities. The process started with rapid sketching sessions, allowing a wide range of ideas and concepts to be generated quickly before moving into digital design. These initial sketches focused on capturing themes related to film, storytelling, creativity, and digital entertainment.

Once the strongest concepts had been identified, a selection of logo proposals was developed and presented to the client. Each proposal explored different visual approaches while remaining aligned with the project's objectives. Following client feedback, one concept was selected for further refinement. The next stage involved building the visual language around the chosen logo, including colour palettes, typography, and supporting graphic elements. Several colour variations were explored before the final direction was established, resulting in a cohesive and recognisable brand identity supported by comprehensive brand guidelines.

Website Design and Layout Development

The website design process began with the creation of wireframes to establish the overall structure, functionality, and user experience of the platform. Working in wireframes first allowed key content areas, navigation patterns, and user journeys to be planned without the distraction of visual styling. This stage helped define how visitors would discover content, browse categories, and engage with the platform.

By focusing on layout and functionality early in the process, potential usability issues could be identified and resolved before moving into high-fidelity design. Once the wireframes were approved, the visual design phase began, translating the approved structure into a polished interface that reflected the newly developed brand identity. The final website combines a clean and modern aesthetic with intuitive navigation, creating an engaging experience for users while showcasing the platform's content effectively.

Evolution of the Hero Image

A key part of the website's visual identity was the creation of a custom hero image that would communicate the creative and cinematic nature of the Shortflicks brand. The process began with hand-drawn sketches used to explore different concepts, compositions, and storytelling elements. These early drawings helped establish the overall vision and allowed various ideas to be tested before committing to a final direction.

Once the concept was approved, the artwork was developed digitally from the ground up. Individual elements were carefully sourced and combined to create a unique photo manipulation that reflected the personality of the brand. Throughout the process, additional details, visual effects, and compositional elements were introduced to enrich the narrative and create a more immersive scene. The final image became a central feature of the website, helping to establish an engaging first impression while reinforcing the platform's creative identity.
